Summary: William Mattison, a CCC “Boy” — really a young man — died fighting a fire near Nevada City, CA. He was struck by a falling tree and perished. Two other CCC firefighters died when struck by a tree in Idaho around the same time and a month later another CCC worker died — also in Idaho.
