Summary: On 8/9/1936 near Harrington, Washington, Bert Zink, 53, was one of a large number of wildland firefighters trying to contain one of many fires burning across the West and Midwest. Bert was crushed by a large tree while fighting a relatively small wildfire. He worked at the Great Northern Railway as a construction worker and was sent with other employees to fight the fire east-south-east of Spokane.
