Summary: Firefighters were brought in from Oregon to fight two fires raging on the Payette National Forest in August of 1949. According to a news article of the Associated Press, the charred body of Chester A Johnson, one of the Portland Oregon firefighters, was found on Saturday August 25, 1949 on the Payette National Forest’s Warm Springs Fire near McCall, Idaho. He had been missing since Sunday, August 21st.
