Summary:
On 6/21/68 Captain Phil Goodell of Patrol 77 was trapped on a power line access road along with Engine 382. They tried to fire the road but did not complete it in time. Capt Goodell stayed out with a hose line to defended the crew members who were under the fire engine. Captain Goodell, age 45, suffered burn injuries and died on 6/24/68. Some of the engine crew also received burns. This fire burned 48,428 acres above the Castaic area.
