Summary: Chief Pennington and members of his department responded to a wildland fire. Chief Pennington arrived in his personal vehicle and operated the pumper when it arrived on-scene. After the fire was extinguished, Chief Pennington complained of chest pains. He left the scene and went home to rest. About an hour and a half after leaving the scene, Chief Pennington collapsed at home of an apparent heart attack. Firefighters who were at Chief Pennington’s home responded immediately, and CPR was initiated. An ambulance transported Chief Pennington to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
