On July 15, 1987 Mark Giles and James Moore who had been fighting the fire were entrapped and burned over near a logging camp with their logging equipment. They did not survive. Historically, loggers and fallers who were employees of timber companies often worked together with state and federal agencies to fight forest fires. Their equipment also became part of the mutual firefighting effort.
