Hello,
There are a few mistakes on your posting. Tanker 61 Memorial in Klamath Falls is not located at the dispatch center. It is located at the Klamath Falls Interagency Fire Center or KFIFC at the end of Summers Lane. http://scofmp.org/kfifc/t61.html
We are open to the public from May – October.
Also, Chuck Sheridan was 54. He was born in 1938.
Thank you,
Marcia Cavin
Project Director
Marcia, many thanks for the corrections and Chuck’s age. We rely on people that knew and loved these folks to get all details correct. If you have any photos or stories, we’d appreciate being able to share those.

Hi,
I have some photos but not sure how to send them through this reply. I could be technologically challenged.
Thanks
Today marks 20 years. I have not forgotten. They are often thought of and truly missed

Fellow friend coworker and tanker pilot
Forty-two years ago Chuck Sheridan was my flight instructor at the Porterville Airport. He became a role model for me and as a result I pursued a career in aviation and flew commercially for 30 years. I even used to own Butler’s B-26 Tanker 16 due to the enthusiasm we shared for recip aviation. Now that I am retired, one of my “bucket list” items is to visit the crash site of Tanker 61 to pay my respects to a great guy and pilot. Could anyone help me with how I could obtain information about locating the crash site? I would appreciate any information or contacts that I could make in order to make this possible someday. I can be reached at InvaderLane19@aol.com (858)382-7452
Thank you,
David Lane
You may try to locate Fred Roach Retired from the Sequoia. Last I knew he was still in the Lake Isabela area. He was the Ops chief and in the air when 61 went down and was over it within about 5-10 minutes.
Good luck with your search! Also ElDorado County may have the record of exact location.
Thank you for that lead, Hutch. Will have to see if Fred is listed in the Lake Isabella directory now.
Contact tankersixonememorial (at) gmail.com and they can assist with location information. I’ll pass this along to them as well…. there is a great network of connections between 61’s home base in OR and the community near the crash site in CA, so they’ll be able to assist.
I seem to be moving closer each day to figuring this thing out and thank you for this latest information which may provide the specific information that I am seeking.
Cleveland fire, Eldorado NF. The forest should still have some history. It was up over the ridge from Ice House.
