Summary: On April 2, Firefighter Joseph Jay Boothe of the Pea Ridge (AL) Volunteer Fire Department was riding in the passenger seat of a 1971 Ford 1200 gallon tanker truck enroute to a brush fire that was threatening several homes and a church. Boothe was killed when the vehicle overturned heading into a sharp turn. The police report indicated that the vehicle was traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone. The driver received minor injuries and reported that the brakes on the vehicle locked up heading into the curve. The vehicle had no seatbelts and Firefighter Boothe died of traumatic injuries received from being pinned under the vehicle.
