Summary: Inmate Firefighter Buti and the members of his crew were hiking up to the site of the Sims wildland fire near Elk City. The weather was extremely hot with temperatures in the low 100’s. As the crew hiked, Inmate Firefighter Buti suddenly collapsed. Other firefighters performed CPR until the arrival of a medical team from a nearby forest service base. Despite their efforts, Inmate Firefighter Buti could not be revived. The cause of death was listed as a heart attack.
