Summary: On August 15, 1990, Julius C. Starr collapsed and during briefing in firecamp on the Snowshoe Fire on the Malheur National Forest. Medical personnel in firecamp administered immediate first aid. Julius was unconscious and breathing when taken to a hospital in John Day, OR. He was later flown to Bend, where he passed away. He had died of a stroke.
