Summary: On July 9, 1989, Antonio “Abel” Hernandez was working with his crew from Gabilan Conservation Camp on a 3,100 acre arson fire near the spectacular coastline of Monterey County in the Big Sur Wilderness when he was struck and killed by a falling redwood. Six members of his crew were injured but survived.
