Summary: On September 7, 1950 Edward Archer was struck by a large portion of a falling tree and killed. He had been fighting a 60 to 70 acre forest fire on Lynx Creek along with a crew of men when the accident occurred. The crew carried him to the road on a stretcher and he was rushed to the hospital. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead.

Tragedy was felt in this community Thursday when it was learned that Edward H. Archer of Afton was the victim of an accident which cost his life. Edward. who operates a sawmill on Greys River, was fighting a 60 to 70 acre forest fire on Lynx Creek along with a crew of men, when he was hit with a large portion of a falling tree. Exact details of the accident were not known as The Independent went to press, but it is known that he was removed to the road on a stretcher then rushed to the hospital in Afton where Dr. Worthen pronounced him dead upon arrival.
