“Unfortunately, our history is not without tragedy,” Baker said, recalling a Feb. 11, 1984, grass fire west of Crowley. “That resulted in our department’s only line-of-duty death.”
Firefighters Pat Clark, Jamie Cashion, Duane Capps and Royce Young suffered injuries that day. As did firefighter Larry Dale Stephens, who died from his injuries three days later. Something Baker called a tragedy JFD will never forget. Black ribbons with Stephens’ name now adorn the sides of Joshua fire trucks.
- Larry Stephens is honored on the USFA National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD. Look for his name under Texas.
