Summary: On March 22, firefighters attempted to cut off and suppress a fire blowing up in a canyon below them. Firefighter Dustin Mills of the Capron Fire Department died enroute to a wildfire that burned over 5,000 acres. Firefighter Mills died near Alva OK, when the brush truck he was riding on overturned as it drove over a smoke-obscured, 15′ embankment. Mills was thrown off the back and the engine landed on top of him. He died of traumatic injuries at the scene; another firefighter received minor injuries.
