    A 35-year-old inmate convicted in San Joaquin County and training in prison to be a firefighter collapsed and died Tuesday during physical fitness exercises in Lassen County, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman said.

    Emmitt Lamar McCaskel’s cause of death is pending a coroner’s report, corrections department spokeswoman Terry Thornton said. McCaskel was among a crew of 20 inmates training outside the California Correctional Center in Susanville when he died at 11:23 a.m. (More at the link.)
